När ”livets slut” blir ”förtroendets slut” – varför Flic fortfarande stöder det vi levererar

Logitech POP Slut på livslängd

Over the past few weeks, the smart home world has watched yet another product line get put to End of Life (EOL) – not just discontinued, but ultimately switched off. When that happens, buttons that used to trigger lights, scenes, or routines become, quite literally, plastic. It’s frustrating, wasteful, and avoidable.

A recent example is Logitech’s POP smart buttons. Logitech has informed customers that the POP buttons and hub would stop working and “lose all functionality” as of October 15, 2025. That’s a tough day for anyone who invested money, time, and trust into their setup. It’s also a reminder of something we’ve believed at Flic since day one: if you build for homes, you build for the long haul.

When a product becomes e-waste because a cloud switch is flipped, the real loss isn’t just hardware-it’s consumer trust. We consider that trust our most valuable asset.

Flics first product still works-10+ years on

Flic launched its first smart button more than a decade ago. Many of you still use those original buttons every day. And yes-we still support them. That commitment requires effort: maintaining backward compatibility, keeping local control pathways robust, and resisting the temptation to push everything into a cloud dependency that might not age gracefully.

Longevity is a design decision. We choose architectures and partnerships that keep Flic buttons useful for years, not just product cycles.

Sustainability starts with not throwing things away

Smart home sustainability isn’t only about recycled packaging or carbon-neutral shipping (important as those are). The biggest lever is product longevity. Every year we keep a device in service is a year we avoid creating new waste. Local-first control, open integrations, and stable APIs help devices survive the constant churn of platforms and standards.

The greenest button is the one you don’t have to replace. Supporting legacy devices is one of the most meaningful sustainability choices a brand can make.

For POP owners: a (genuine) olive branch

We can’t control what other companies do, but we can control how we respond. If you’re a Logitech POP owner affected by the EOL, we’d like to welcome you to the Flic ecosystem with a unique, consolation discount.

How to claim:

  1. Email us at info@flic.io
  2. Include a photo of your POP product (button and/or hub)
  3. We’ll send you a unique discount code to help you switch over to Flic

(One code per customer; subject to simple verification. POP is a trademark of its respective owner; Flic is not affiliated with Logitech.)

A better way forward

EOL will always be part of technology. But “End of Life” doesn’t have to mean the end of functionality. At Flic, we believe brands earn loyalty by standing behind what they sell – for years. That’s why we’re still supporting our first product, and why we’re opening our doors to those who’ve been left behind elsewhere.

If you’re ready for a smart home that respects your investment and your routines, we’re ready for you.
